Group of people.

Short abstract

More than 1 in 5 people in the UK are affected by bladder and bowel conditions. This can happen to anyone, although a number of groups are disproportionately affected.

In this project, we focused on under-represented groups, recruiting 83 participants. We identified the following changes needed to happen:

1. The taboo surrounding bladder and bowel leakage needs addressing.
2. More conversations around bladder and bowel leakage need to happen.
3. Commisioners should prioritise bladder and bowel provision.
4. Access to public toilet facilities should be increased.
5. Access to the right treatements and service pathways should be improved.
6. The mental wellbeing of those affected needs to be supported.

This project ran in partnership with Bladder & Bowel Confidence (BABCON) at Bristol Health Partners and Disruptive Thinking.
