The second year of our Commercialisation Academy is set to start in early October 2025, following a very successful first year. Now open to applicants, the in-depth programme supports health and care innovators in scaling their innovations within the NHS and aims to support companies developing products with the potential to benefit NHS patients and professionals.
The free eight-week course, designed to help innovators develop strategic commercialisation plans, is based on the Triple Chasm Model®, a data-driven framework developed from research into commercialisation journeys. It provides expert mentoring, networking opportunities, and bespoke training to help innovators navigate the challenges of scaling their innovations within the NHS.
Alex Leach, Deputy Director of Programmes at Health Innovation West of England, said: “We are committed to supporting impactful innovations gain traction across the NHS – something we know can be extremely challenging. The success of the first programme from Triple Chasm proves that the West of England Commercialisation Academy upskills innovators with additional tools and knowledge and offers a substantial benefit to successful companies. The programme can really support innovators to get their product noticed and ultimately help contribute to building an NHS that is fit for the future.”
The first year of the programme saw seven companies participating which have gone on to great commercial success, including Bleepa®, whose founder, Tom Oakley, has become an NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) 2025 Fellow following his participation; Cognitant, who have won a Phase 3 SBRI grant and RateMyShift, have now formed a partnership to enhance their app development with Alphalake AI, who were also working with another of the Academy attendees.
Karina Malhotra, Managing Director of Acumentice, who graduated from last year’s programme, commented: “We have found it absolutely game changing for our product and how we are commercialising it within the NHS setting. In particular, it has really helped us understand the market we operate in and the value proposition, helping to really refine it and articulate it clearly to our audience so they can really see the value it can bring to their organisations.”
The West of England Commercialisation Academy programme is open to innovators with adoption-ready health and care innovations, ideally with some early traction in the NHS. This year they are seeking applicants relating to innovations that fit with the Government’s three health and care shifts, as set out in the 10 Year Health Plan – hospital to community, analogue to digital and sickness to prevention.
Sam Dods, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Triple Chasm, said: “We are delighted to be working with Health Innovation West of England for the second year running – the programme has proven benefits in supporting later-stage health and care innovators to navigate the most challenging stage of the commercialisation journey from successful prototyping and early customer traction to development of a scalable business model. The West of England Commercialisation Academy offers vital skills, insights and support for innovators looking to gain traction, adoption and spread in the NHS.”
