Maternity and neonatal units across the South West and the PERIPrem team are celebrating after the project won Best National/ Regional Project at the 2022 BAPM Gopi Menon Awards on September 16 2022.
PERIPrem is our project run in partnership with South West AHSN and South West Neonatal Network to introduce a perinatal care bundle to improve outcomes for premature babies. The bundle, which now forms part of our Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme, consists of 11 interventions that demonstrate a significant impact on brain injury and mortality rates amongst babies born earlier than 34 weeks.
Our @peri_prem teams rewarded with @BAPM_Official Gopi Menon Award for best Regional/National project. So very proud of all my SW perinatal colleagues, parent partners, AHSNs & @swneonatal support. Joanna Garrett, Senior Project Manager for the West of England AHSN, said: “We are all so proud of what we have been able to achieve together, PERIPrem is built on collaboration – colleagues from all 12 maternity trusts across the South West region, along with teams from the two AHSNs and the Neonatal Network, clinical experts and parent partners have worked excellently together – and winning this award is testament to the passion, commitment and drive of these individuals and teams.”
The annual BAPM Gopi Menon Awards recognise outstanding contributions in perinatal care and celebrates teams and individuals that have gone above and beyond in big and small ways. They aim to recognise people that go out of their way to make things better for their patients and colleagues.
This is the latest in a number of successes for the PERIPrem project. In April 2022, PERIPrem featured as a case study in the latest NHS GIRFT Neonatology report with teams being encouraged to access our resources. PERIPrem case studies were also published by NHS Confederation (April 2022) and the National Child Mortality Database thematic report (August 2022), as well as this official PERIPrem resources have received Neonatal Nurses Association endorsement.
At the 2021 HSJ Patient Safety Awards, PERIPrem was highly commended as the Patient Safety Pilot of the Year. PERIPrem was also shortlisted for Provider Collaboration of the Year at the 2021 HSJ Awards.
