The Black Maternity Matters collaborative has made it to the finals of the prestigious Black Maternal Health Awards UK.

We’ve been shortlisted in the Community Project category, which celebrates initiatives creating measurable change in maternal health outcomes at a local level.

The Black Maternal Health Awards UK, spearheaded by The Motherhood Group, celebrate excellence across maternal healthcare.

Black women in the UK remain more likely to experience serious maternal health and mental health complications. These awards help to spotlight dedicated individuals and organisations working hard to transform these statistics.

The judging panel is drawn from across maternal healthcare, academia, and community advocacy, and their remit is to identify outstanding contributions in care quality and access, maternal mental health, policy change, education and empowerment, and community support networks.

Our Black Maternity Matters training and education programme is supporting perinatal teams to reduce the inequitable maternity outcomes faced by Black mothers and their babies. The collaborative was established in 2021 by Health Innovation West of England, BCohCo, Representation Matters and Black Mothers Matter, working closely with the maternal and neonatal community across the West of England. Find out more about Black Maternity Matters here.

The other finalists for the Community Project Award are: Rebecca Gilbert and the London Regional Maternity Team; South East London Mindful Mums; and B3 – Bumps, Birth & Belonging Partnership.

The award winners will be announced at a special event in London on Saturday 22 March. Good luck to all the finalists!
